I realized something about our Math curriculum this week. It is broken up into semesters, so we are to do one book in the first half of school, then another book in the second half of school. Well, according to the My Father's World lesson plan that I got with Singapore Math, if we do 5 lessons of math per week, we will get through the first book in 11 weeks. Now, I haven't gone to the second book to find out how many lessons there are, but I assume there are 55 as well. I'll go check on that in a few minutes. My point is that we will get through with the whole year of math in 22 weeks. We have 36 weeks of Exploring Countries and Cultures. I'm not exactly sure what to do, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.
This was our final week in Canada, and it was interesting to learn about the Inuit people. We also read about the French language, and farming and industry in Canada. In science we learned about plant life, animal life, and relationships between living things.
Andrew and I decided that we are going to have a break from school for a week or two, depending on how the last two weeks of my college classes go. I'll post on the blog when we start up again. Since we just finished up North America, it makes sense to stop here for a little bit before we move on to South America.
Here are some pictures of our celery experiment and the papers I made for the kids to learn their AWANA/Sunday School Verses.
I think it's a good problem to have to 'not have enough' Math to do for the year! It'd be much worse not to have a full curriculum that covered all the items that are needed :)
ReplyDeleteIt's also great to be able to be able to responsibly take a week off when you want to - instead of when the 'school' decides you can have a Fall Break!
Looking forward to seeing your next posting!!!
Umm...can you school me, too? What is Xylem?
ReplyDeleteLiz, xylem are the tubes in plants that carry water up to the leaves. =)
