Week 10, ECC

We are almost done with South America and Brazil; just one more week to go! I am so amazed by the girls' ability to retain information. When we do the Geography game, they know where all the countries are! I know I wrote that last week, but it's still true! This coming week we are going to add North America back into the game, so we will see how well they remember that info. We are still reading about the rain forest in Science.

In Math, we are trying to do drills every day. The Math War game is popular. We do flash cards too. I'm looking up websites to print addition time drills for Audrey. It seems that I'm always trying to figure out what will work for that girl. I think it will be just a lot of practice.

We are reading the biography of Nate Saint (I can't remember if I wrote about this last week.) It is so interesting to read about his life. The curriculum that I have offers an alternative to the final chapters in the book to soften the blow of reading that Nate was killed (and how!). I'm not sure yet if we are going to read the book or the alternative. I'll have to discuss it with Andrew.

In order to work on some character development, we have started a workbook on the Fruit of the Spirit. The cover of the book has a fruit stand on it, with watermelons, cherries, apples & such. Adam says that the Fruit of the Spirit is a watermelon. ;) Anyway, this week we talked about love. We made a poster based on 1 Corinthians 13. I plan on keeping it up for a while. I hope that cutting the hearts out of construction paper and writing what love is on the hearts will help us all to remember. I like this workbook because it isn't just reading; we have lots of activities to do.

We have been going to the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The kids play on the playground until Andrew is done with his workout, and then he takes them to the kids' basketball area until I am done with my workout. It is fun for the kids and hopefully they get some exercise. I hope this will continue to work out, because we will need something for them to do when it's snowing outside!

  1. I love the smiles in the picture of the poster. Everyone looks so proud of the work they put into it! Good job, guys!
