This week went by fast, didn't it? We skipped Monday since it was a holiday. I'm not fond of skipping days because it's a pain to get caught up. We still have a little bit of work that we didn't get to. Above is a picture of Adam doing his school work. If you look closely, maybe you can see that he has a toy car that he is driving (or "vrooming" if you ask him) into the pegs. Hard work!
We are still learning about North America, but this week we "went" to Mexico. The girls got their own passports (they applied for them in the first week). We "stamped" them with the flag of Mexico. We've been listening to music from our Wee Sing CD, but also from Pandora.com. I love Pandora! I made a station with Mexican music and we listen to it while we do art or have lunch. It's great.
In science, we are learning about deserts. Oh, and we have a great game that we got from MFW. It's a geography game and I think the girls are getting a lot out of it. I know I am! I love that I'm learning as much as they are. =)
The girls memorized another verse from the book of Matthew. We are also reading about Cameron Townsend, the founder of Wycliffe Bible Translation. We have a couple of connections to this story since Andrew's aunt and uncle work with Wycliffe and my aunt is from Guatemala. I think it makes it more interesting to read. This book is a read aloud that we are doing as a family after dinner.
I took a bunch of stuff to Office Depot to get laminated, including a schedule for our day. I added boxes for each girl and each subject. If they have a bad attitude during that subject, they get a mark. I also included this Bible verse on the bottom of the page: "Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." Colossians 3:23 NLT. I am hoping that this will help with the bad attitudes and procrastination. Any suggestions are welcome. =)
An exciting part of school this week was that we went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch on Friday! We all love our local Mexican restaurant, Carlos O' Kelly's. Here's a picture of our ethnic field trip!
I'm game for the next field trip! I love learning about the Mexican people and their spicy foods. Why keep all the learning to yourself eh?
ReplyDeleteBTW, we used to mooch our laminating needs from Mary Ann for quite a while. I think we've ended up getting our own (very nice to have and I'm pretty sure it ended up costing less than a store might charge you?).
We laminated our piano cards and they are still as nice as when we first pulled them out of the pack! I had a different set of cards previously and they got all dinged up pretty quick (of course, I did have 30 piano students, so many I just used them more?).

It sounds like you had a great week! I'm glad that Adam has found something to do during school. And I'm glad that you are enjoying laminating. I wasn't convinced, at first, that every homeschooler needs a laminator, but I am now. I am working my way up to a copier. ;)
ReplyDeleteI lamanate EVERYTHING, even my recipe cards! I have really enjoyed it. Mary Ann can get you a 200 pack of laminating sheets @ Sam's for only $20. A laminator is around $25, but I got mine for $20 at Aldi as a special item in the spring. Just keep it in mind...it's something to think about.
I think that was a great field trip idea! Our most recent special activity was watchin The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe after Ryan read the book aloud to Sydney. I love those little add-on things.
I love reading your posts! Looks like you're doing great!!!
