This is how Audrey usually looks when doing her work. Pitiful.
I guess I'll just go through the subjects that we covered this week to give a "report" on how it went.
Bible was good. They had to memorize John 3:16, which was nice because they already know it. They both had a "test" on it today - Abby had to write it out and Audrey had to recite it orally. During the week we read from a few different books. One is about a family who went to Papua New Guinea to translate the Bible into their language. It was a very informative book and it gave a great insight into Bible translation work.
Geography has us investigating maps and globes and learning terminology such as North, South, Legend, Equator, Hemisphere, etc. The girls had to make a map of their room and include all the furniture. They made it to scale (1 inch equaled 1 foot) and it was very nice.
In Science we learned about habitats, niches, and ecosystems. All the kids went outside to the backyard and observed a square of the ground. The girls made note of everything they saw, Abby included Adam's foot. =) They had a magnifying glass to look close to the ground. I was impressed. I thought they did a great job.
Math is going quickly since it's pretty much review of what they already knew.
Audrey had her first spelling test today and she did well. Abby doesn't have to start her spelling program for another two weeks.
We went to the library today and the girls experienced the non-fiction section for the first time. I think they will really enjoy it! They also checked out some fiction books. I checked out "Little House in the Big Woods" to read to them. We read the first chapter today and it was long, but very good.
There is a lot more stuff that went on this week. These are the highlights that I remember off the top of my head. Here are some pictures of the kids during our science observation.
Wow - sounds like a great week! I would have loved that week in school for the first week!!! I'm glad that you enjoyed your time.
ReplyDeleteThe science project sounds good. I hear that you can't have Bible in the public schools any more??? I'm sure that's just a rumor though...it's been a while since I've been in the public school system. Yea for verse memorization!!!
- Ryan (not Joy posting even though it says Joy is posting - though you probably couldn't tell us apart from the way we write.)
(This really is Joy...)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you guys had a lot of fun this week! I think it's cute how Adam joins in; he looks very involved in the Science project. ;) I'm glad it's going well and can't wait to hear/see more!
We're going to read Little House in the Big Woods to Sydney this year, too. And we're learning about maps!
I love how Abby included Adam's foot in her report of what she observed outside! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGood job, mama!
Great week. I need to look out my back window more and see what is going on over there. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have the whole series of Little House books, if you want to borrow them from me instead of the library. I promise...I won't charge you a late fee. :-)
